Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer – no spoiler

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1985) is a film I recently watched and bothered my friends about. So now I am here to bother you. The film tells the story of Henry, a serial killer who lives with his ex cell-mate Otis in a dirty flat somewhere in the States. I will not give too many details as I promise this would have been no spoiler, and also because I frankly can’t remember where about in the States. Anyways, Henry secretely enjoys killing every woman he encounters, but something seems to change when Otis’ sister, Becky moves to the flat. How does the story change? Well, Becky is attracted to Henry and he feels a weird attachement to her; when her brother does not behave propely with her, Henry intervenes, and although it is not a habit of mine to romanticise serial killers, I inevitably empathised with him. Which is to say: he kills daily at least dozen females but at least he leaves one alone… However, Henry seems to finally be a new man thank to her, but will this last? The f...

Quiet on Set - The Nightmare behind Nickelodeon and Teen shows (Warning: it will ruin child memories)

I have this fond of memory of mine when I was six or seven putting an alarm at 5 o'clock in the morning (don't know what was going on with me at the time) to sit on the rug in front of the TV with my brother and watch "Drake & Josh - Prima Visione". I was crazy for that show. Okay ICarly, okay Ned blablabla, Okay Zoey 101, but Drake and Josh was on another level.  In the crosshairs of this article of mine today, there is a certain Dan Schneider. This man has been responsible for being abusive almost openly with the kids featuring in his shows (some of those were mentioned above) over the span of 20 years, from 1990s till 2010s. In the early stages of his career Dan used to play the role of the chubby one in all of his tv appearences, and he was mainly regarded for this. After a while, he started to long for redemption, wanting to prove more of himself. He obtained a job in a teen show, and soon became the owner/writer of one. "All of that" was his very f...

The World To Come (spoiler)

Yesterday I watched this movie: "The World To Come" (2020). After "Tell it to the Bees" set in 1952 and the more popular "Portrait of a Lady On Fire" set in 1770, I thought lesbians in the 1800s must have been good fun too. So here we are, "The World To Come" set in the 1855. Brief recap of the plot: in the isolated American Northeast, two married women, encounter and fall in love for each other. Deepening: the film is about two women being extremely lonely. Abigail, married to a distracted but caring farmer, finds escape from the misery of her life, writing on her diary (the whole story is narrated by her, subjectively, as she writes on the diary), and Tallie, subjected to the will of a brute. I was not disappointed by the pattern of the two lovers being one brunette and the other one blonde/ginger. But here the differences between the two go way beyond appearence. Abigail, after her young daughter died one year earlier, has no other mean of esc...

Queer - Guadagnino's new transgression (spoiler alert)

Hello gorgeous, new day, new article. For those who don't know me, I'll disclose one random fact: I can't remember the end of films or books. Half of the films I watched have an open ending as far as I am concerned. And this loss of memory can happen from the day after. All this premise to say that for me to write about a film I watched at the movies a whole week ago, is totally unwise. But I'll try, because interpretations were prompted. "Queer" by Luca Guadagnino. Last film I had watched by him was "Call me by your name". You can guess the shock. I had missed "Bones and All", that's why.  However, very good costumes (Daniel Craig's clothes really gave out filthy smell of cigarette and alcohol) and the setting: precious.  At a first glance the film could look like the story of this mid-aged writer who conducts this really bohemian life between fags, alcohol and passive young gAys. Till he meets this angel on earth, tall, handsome, ...

The Fab Four…EHM Three… EHM EHM Two… Paul where are you?

Welcome people, readers, friends and mum, hi mum (epileptic wave of hand to mum), to this new blog of mine. For you to get to now me better (if you ever care about it) this post about The Bealtes should be a good way to kick it off. The Beatles, although a better name could have been found, was what got me this close to music and to the world of fangirling (I’m only a girl after all…). I liked John, then George, then Paul, sorry Ringo. Once upon, a long ago (shout out to the magic of Paul’s omonym song, I can hear the trill of the beginning of the song in my head as I write), continuing… Once upon, I was only six or seven at the time (not true) I remember I heard my dad blasting the vinyl “Rubber Soul” (1965, I knew the date but checked) from the living room and ran down the hallway from my room to have my earing sorted out for well.. That’s what happened, but also, I felt in love. So, staring at the album cover, had to ask: “Dad, who died of these four?” As I usually do, like if my da...
